Humiliating...Again
This week (Groh) ikened hard, honest questioning from fans on his call-in show to, essentially, Cessna pilots questioning the captain of a jumbo jet. The inference was, "These small people have no idea how to coach my football team." It's that condescension, that utter arrogance in the face of failure, that will be his undoing .
People here are friendly, folksy; they don't like uppity people who used to work for Bill Parcells telling them they don't know what they're talking about, even if Groh is a Virginia alum.
Look, Lord Groh of 'Hooville is about to face a revolt from the peasants that may include pitchforks. It's not going to be pretty.'
-- Washington Post columnist Mike Wise

I think some of the posters on this website are being a little one-sided and unreasonable. You can't expect a coach to completely turn a team around in just 5 years. That is only one-year longer than an entire recruiting cycle, so you can really only rebuild your team 125%. Hardly enough to show results. Not for $1.7 million per year anyway. If you look at the trajectory of the team, you see a pretty normal "inverted bell curve" of which we are now at the bottom. Expect a one-win season next year before a violent upward trajectory resulting in multiple national championships. That's how it worked in Groh's previous turnarounds.
ok phil groh is wrong and needs to face reality the football program is a complete mess! we cant even hold a 20-0 lead!! groh must go along with his son and the special team nightmare that makes a significant mistake evry game! this website needs to be advertised and published more!!! fly a banner over the stadium!! get him fired!!!!and his son too
Another dismal loss to Virginia Tech should be the nail in the coffin for old Al, but the Virginia schweetharts will keep him on for that unimaginable salary that he's making (for what??) ....
In industry, when you fail as a CEO, you get fired....in Virginia Football, like past history of Virginia Basketball, you get a 10 year contract. No wonder the Hoos remain laughingstocks in the ACC for football, a millimeter ahead of the Blue Devils.
